The Texel beach attracts thousands of visitors every year who enjoy the peace, nature, and activities. With a vast sandy beach stretching 30 kilometers along the North Sea, there is plenty of space for everyone. From Pole 33 near the lighthouse to Pole 1 by the ferry, Texel’s beach is the place for relaxation, adventure, and fun, all year round!
What can you do on the beach?
Texel offers a wide range of activities, such as kite flying, surfing, kite surfing, and land yachting. Each sport has a designated beach area, ensuring a good balance between action and tranquility. Walkers and dog lovers will also find their happiness here – on most beaches, dogs are allowed to run freely. During the summer months (March 1 – September 1), dogs must be kept on a leash on the guarded beaches, but outside of this period, they can roam free.
Rent a Beach Cabin
Want the ultimate beach experience? Rent a beach cabin! From Pole 9 to Pole 28, you can rent cabins, complete with lounge chairs and umbrellas. Perfect for enjoying a relaxing day by the sea with family or friends.
Horseback Riding on the Beach
Yes, you can ride horses on the beach in Texel! From May 1 to October 1, you can ride on the sports beaches between Pole 9.77 and 33.02, and outside of this period, you can ride along the entire west coast. This must be done outside of the busiest hours, from sunrise to 10:00 AM and after 7:00 PM.
Kiting and Surfing
For water sports enthusiasts, the sports beaches are ideal. Whether windsurfing, kite surfing, or kayaking, the sports beaches on the west side of the island, marked with black and white flags, offer plenty of space. On the east side, near Dijkmanshuizen, there is also a small surf beach available.
Nudist Beaches
For those who prefer to enjoy their freedom, there are two nudist beaches on Texel. At De Cocksdorp (Pole 26.4 to 27.45) and Den Hoorn (Pole 8 to 10.13), you can relax undisturbed and take a refreshing dip.
Beach Waste
Keeping the beach clean is essential! Containers are located at all main entrances, and on the busiest spots, even on the beach itself. There are also annual clean-up campaigns to keep the beach tidy. Join in and make sure the beach stays clean for future visitors.
Safe Swimming
On the busiest beaches, there is lifeguard supervision, recognizable by the red-yellow flag. These lifeguards keep an eye on things and warn of dangerous conditions. Always check the flags: a yellow flag means it’s dangerous to swim, and red means the sea is off-limits.
Beach Flags:
- Red-yellow flag: Lifeguards present
- Yellow flag: Dangerous swimming conditions
- White flag: Lost or found child
- Red flag: Swimming prohibited
- Black-white flag: Sports beach
Whether you come to sunbathe, walk, or play sports, Texel’s beach offers something for everyone. With the soft sand, fresh sea breeze, and endless possibilities, every day at the beach is an experience!
