Sometimes, simple names are simply the best. The old islanders of Texel, for instance, chose to call the village at the eastern end of the island 'Oosterend', and it turned out to be a name for the ages.
In the heart of this idyllic village, considered by many locals to be the most authentic on the island, you will find a small café with the down-to-earth name 'Het Cafeetje'. Quite simply, because that is the best name for this spot. Incidentally, it is located on a beautiful old square with a church in the centre; they call that square 'Kerkplein' here...
Anyone visiting Het Cafeetje immediately understands that attention has been focused elsewhere. On an excellent beer menu, for example. As you walk in, you instantly notice the various taps, featuring beer brewed right here in the village. There is also plenty of attention given to treats to accompany your coffee: homemade 'appelplaatkoek' (apple traybake), another modest name for something that is actually quite special. Those who linger a little longer at Het Cafeetje—because one drink is never enough and it is so easy to settle in here—will soon discover the same care is put into an extensive menu, with varied dishes prepared fresh in their own kitchen. It is ideal for a hearty lunch halfway through a cycling trip across Texel, but also perfect for a dinner that can last all evening.
Attention—that is what Het Cafeetje is all about. Attention to quality products, and attention to one another. No other pub on Texel breathes the atmosphere of a true village local quite like this. This is the living room of Oosterend, where villagers and guests from the mainland ('the Overkant') enjoy everything delicious together. And the sun, of course, because with two terraces—one at the front and one at the back—the team at Het Cafeetje makes sure they don't miss a single ray of sunshine.
