On Texel, they certainly know their way around malt, hops and a healthy dose of character. Anyone visiting the island can hardly miss it: the Texelse Bierbrouwerij. Famous not only for its Skuumkoppe, but also for the location itself – where everything revolves around flavour, craftsmanship and that unique island feeling. We went to take a look.
Brewing in an old dairy factory
You don’t have to be a beer connoisseur to be impressed by the Texelse Bierbrouwerij. Because what happens there just outside Oudeschild – in an old dairy factory, to be precise – is a story of passion, craftsmanship and a fair amount of malt. They have been brewing beers here since 1999 that are just as headstrong as the island itself. And you can taste it.
See it, taste it, experience it
Keen to discover how Texels beer is made? During the Texels Experience (Texels Beleving), a guide takes you through the brewery, where you’ll learn all about the brewing process, the history of the island and the old dairy factory that now houses the brewery. You’ll view the brewhouse, dive into the Texels Beer Museum and discover what the ‘Texels Secret’ really entails. Along the way, you’ll sample two Texelse beers. In the Tasting Room (Proeflokaal), you can enjoy one final craft beer, while the shop has a Texels souvenir waiting for you – a lovely memento of a unique experience.
The brewery recently underwent a major metamorphosis. So even if you’ve visited before, it’s well worth taking another look. The tour has been updated and the tasting room completely redesigned – it feels like a whole new experience.

Skuumkoppe, Goudkoppe and more
Everyone knows it: the Skuumkoppe. A dark wheat beer with a creamy head and a delicious, full-bodied flavour. But the brewery has plenty more to offer. There’s the fresh Goudkoppe, the hoppy Overzee IPA and the powerful Tuunwal Tripel – all with a distinct character and brewed with Texels dune water. In the colder months, it’s time for the Jutters Bock and Stormbock, two robust seasonal beers that perfectly suit the time of year. And for those who prefer to keep it alcohol-free, Skuumkoppe 0.0 was recently launched.
Webshop with an island vibe
Want to take some Texelse beers home after your visit? You don't have to fit them in your suitcase, though you certainly can. Alongside their beautiful physical shop, they also have a webshop. There, you can order mixed crates, gift boxes, glassware, bottle openers, jumpers and more. Perfect for those who want a piece of Texel on the sofa at home, or at the neighbourhood barbecue.

Dropping by?
The brewery is located on Schilderweg, just outside Oudeschild. Not right in the village, but an easy cycle away. Be sure to book in advance if you want to join the tour – they are popular. And naturally so: beer simply tastes better when you know exactly where it comes from.
