At the end of the Hoornderweg, right where the beach begins, you’ll find Paal 9. A beach pavilion with sea views, a large terrace nestled in the dunes, and a bright, inviting interior. The vista captures you instantly; you take a good look around and immediately understand why people find it so hard to leave.
Inside, it is light and spacious; outside, you sit sheltered from the wind with a view of one of the widest beaches on Texel. The atmosphere is relaxed and the service friendly — exactly what you would expect from a spot like this.
A varied and well-considered menu
From breakfast to dinner: the menu is clear and offers something for everyone. There is also plenty of choice for those looking for vegetarian or vegan options, treated not as an afterthought but as a core part of the offering. Many of the ingredients come from local farmers and producers. You can taste the quality in the dishes: fresh, honest, and prepared with care.
A sustainable beach pavilion
Paal 9 runs entirely on electricity, is heated by a pellet stove, and meticulously sorts its waste. Small choices make a big difference here: no plastic milk cartons or individually wrapped biscuits, honey is provided in jars, and milk is added in the kitchen or served separately upon request. This ensures nothing that doesn't belong there blows onto the beach. Their 'Plastic-free terrace' sign is even made from plastic washed up on the North Holland coast, a visible result of their commitment to the environment.
Action on the beach
Right next to the pavilion, you’ll find Surf Center Paal 9. You can go surfing, paddleboarding, or rent equipment if you want to head out onto the water yourself. Children can join beach camps, while groups can book lessons or clinics. For those in the mood for something active, there are plenty of options.

You’ll be staying a while before you know it
Perhaps you only came for a coffee, breakfast, or lunch. But there’s a good chance you’ll find yourself lingering. Not because you planned to, but because time suddenly seems less important. It’s comfortable, the view remains captivating, and everything just feels right.
