In Oosterend, a beautiful village on the east side of the island, you will find Brouwerij Stokerij Texel. Here, the TX team works hard every day to produce craft beers and spirits using as many local products as possible.
From surplus produce to TX Gin
This wonderful business started in 2015 at Hoeve Nieuw Breda in de Cocksdorp. In the past, it was quite normal for a large farm to have its own distillery. Spirits were distilled from surplus products, such as potatoes, beets or fruit. These kept you warm during winter work on the land and provided a little extra income alongside the harvest. This inspired the idea to distil a genuine Texel vodka from 'surplus potatoes'. 250 certificates were sold to realise a small distillery in the potato shed. This was very well received, and the idea for a new drink soon followed: a Texel gin. Working together with the kitchen brigade from restaurant Gusta, three gins were developed, and through a tasting session with the 250 certificate holders, the recipe for TX Gin was chosen—which remains unchanged to this day.

From distilling to brewing in Oosterend
The distillery soon outgrew its original premises and moved to its current location, the Slotskolk in Oosterend. A brewery was established alongside the distillery, where a wide range of speciality beers is now brewed. At TX, they love to explore and discover new flavours. They do this through their limited-edition ‘Barrel Aged’ beers—strong beers aged in oak barrels. Perfect for a night of toasting with friends!
A tour of the Brewery and Distillery
One thing you really shouldn't miss is a guided tour of Brouwerij Stokerij Texel. You will be welcomed into their cosy taproom with a homemade cocktail before heading off to take a look behind the scenes at TX. See both the distillery and the brewery up close and, afterwards, enjoy tasting the speciality beers and spirits to your heart's content on their sunny terrace. Want to take something tasty home? No problem! In the Brouwerij Stokerij Texel shop, you'll find all sorts of treats for at home.
